so placid and self-contain'd,
I stand and look at them long and long.
मुझे लगता है कि मैं जानवरों के साथ रह सकता हूँ, जी सकता हूँ वे
कितने शांत और आत्मसंतुष्ट हैं।

They do not sweat and whine about their condition,
They do not lie awake in the dark and weep for their sins,
They do not make me sick discussing their duty to God,
Not one is dissatisfied, not one is demented with
the mania of owning things,

इस समूची धरती पर कोई भी आदरणीय या नाखुश नहीं है।
इसलिए वे अपने रिश्ते मुझे दिखाते हैं और मैं उन्हें अपनाता हूँ
वे मेरे लिए अपनत्त्व का संकेत (गुण) लेकर आते है। वे
साधारण रूप से उसे उसके अपने गुण प्रदर्शित करते हैं।
I wonder where they get those tokens,
Did I pass that way huge times ago and negligently drop them?
मुझे हैरानी होती है कि वे यह संकेत (गुण) कहाँ से लाते हैं? क्या मैं इस रास्ते से बहुत बार गुजरा था और मैंने लापरवाही में उन्हें गिरा दिया?
